Silhouette
Lingering at the edges—part memory, part mirage. Silhouette is the latest project from pianist and composer Paul Bedal—a four-track suite of textured compositions that drift between ambient improvisation, chamber jazz, and cinematic minimalism.
Co-produced with multi-instrumentalist Dion Kerr, and featuring an ensemble of trusted collaborators—Caroline Davis (alto sax, flute), Steve Pardo (bass clarinet), Katie Ernst (voice), Will Miller (flugelhorn), and Peter Manheim (percussion)—the EP moves like light across water: always shifting, refracting emotion through tone and breath.
Originally conceived as piano etudes in 2021, the pieces took shape over sessions in Florida and Brooklyn, slowly growing into richly layered soundscapes. From the submerged pulses of Pendulum to the hazy vocal dream of Lighthouse, Silhouette feels like watching distant weather roll in—intimate, expansive, and quietly radiant.
